8/03 Mental Side and Race Preparations

The club will have a lecture about how to handle the mental side of racing and final preparations for racing.  David Henderson, owner of United Studio of Self Defense, will be talking about how to prepare mentally for racing.  He will give us some great tips and tricks for being at our best!

We will also have Jennifer Klein, of VO2 Max Houston, discuss final race preparations, how and why to taper, and how best to peak for your “A” race of the season.

2/17 "How to balance it all"

It is truly an honor for Chris and Peggy Yetman to come speak to our tri club.  Chris and Peggy have two beautiful children Aiden and Avery.  Peggy has been athletic her whole life.  She started at age 4 doing gymnastics.  In 2000, she ran the marathon Olympic trials.  Last year, she won the T-Gator series in Lake Charles, won Battle of San Jacinto and IronBabe here, qualified for Ironman Hawaii World Championship by winning her age group at Buffalo Springs 70.3.  Then she took 4th in her age group at Ironman Hawaii World Championships.  She is currently ranked 1st in our region and 2nd in her age group nationally.

 Please come and hear about Peggy’s athletic and triathlon career.  Both Chris and Peggy will discuss how they work as a team to balance family, work, training, and racing.  There will also be a meet and greet after the lecture.

 So bring your spouse and come get your 2008 triathlon season kicked off by getting inspired with two incredible people who have a passion for love, life, and triathlon!

Join the Kingwood Tri Club for this informative lecture by one of the most knowledgeable people in the United States on bike aerodynamics.

The Kingwood Tri Club will meet at 8:45am in front of the Starbuck in the Randall’s shopping center at Lake Houston and Kingwood Drive.  The car-a-van leaves at 9 am!

The lecture should last about 3 hours.

Please RSVP by Thursday, January 31, 2008 as our club will only get 20 spaces for this great lecture.  Please note in your RSVP if you will be part of the car-a-van… we don’t want to miss anyone!

   
4/13 Bike Aerodynamics

Johnny Zepeda, from Tri On The Run, will come present a hands-on lecture about bike aerodynamics.  He will bring the EXIT bike and do a demonstration to show how best to set up your bike to maximize efficiency and reduce losses due to poor position.  He will cover: An explanation of FIST and Ergo Aero positioning.  Typical client interview -including any skeletal and muscular limitations before beginning bike fit.  Base building-Pedal turn over and cadence.  Cleat placement and shimming of the cleats if needed.  Explanation of leg muscle recruitment in all phase of the pedal stroke to insure power and injury free saddle height and seat angle.  How to measure saddle height and saddle angle on your bike...FIST method.  Angles of the hip and aero bar drop...FIST and Ergo Aero position.  Arm bend-Skeletal support and drop recommendations according to seat angles...FIST and Ergo Aero position.  Riding technique and explanation of how to improve power on your bike.

Tri On The Run will be giving away a free bike fit!!!  So come and learn how to improve efficiency on your bike!

   
4/27 Bike clinic

April 27 Kingwood Tri Club will be having a biking clinic.  Mark Crosno will watch us bike and give us some great tips.  He will cover: how to find your best position on the bike, how to get the most out of the effort you put into a race, and proper racing form.  He will help us improve our biking because one of the biggest problems he see when racing is the efficiency loss based on riding position, style and bad habits.  Be ready to get a workout in!

 

Bring your bike ! This is a hands-on clinic (or feet-on rather).

   
6/21 Run Clinic

Caroline Chamness, Lead Faculty of Technology at Lone Star College, will watch us run and give us pointers on improving our form.  She will also talk about training intensities and optimal workouts for different triathlon races.  Then we will hit the track for a great club workout!

   
 

Because of the weather we will be meeting at 6:30am at Kingwood Middle School Track.  After the workout anyone interested can go to breakfast… dutch treat, of course!

Food and drinks will be provided at the lectures and our sponsors will also be present with discounted items and demonstrations, so come out and support them.

 

Directions to events:

Kingwood College Teaching Theater

Kingwood Dr. past Kingwood Hospital and the college.  Continue straight until you come to a T.  Take a right at the T and park in the parking lot on the left side of the road.  Cross at the cross walk into the building on your right.  The room will be to your left once you get into the building.

Kingwood Athletic Club (KAC)

Exit 59 North at Northpark Dr. Continue along Northpark toward W. Lake Houston (East).  At the first light after crossing over 494 turn Right (Russell Palmer).  You will take the second left turning toward the Nathaniel Center.  The athletic club is at the back on your left. 

United Studios of Self Defense

Exit 59 South at Kingwood Dr.  Cross over 494 and take the first right (stop light) next to Wendy's.  Continue to the first stop sign and turn right.  The studio is to the far right next to Sport Clips and the photography studio.
